‘If music be the food of love’ . . . a classical feast awaits.

Emerging Cambridge virtuosos GEORGE SMITH and MAGGIE BAXTER duet on the cello and keyboard. George plays a 1765 Guersan cello once played in the presence of Marie Antoinette. (She never did utter ‘Let them eat cake’, but she certainly championed fine music.) The Talbot Hotel, Friday 26 June at 1.30pm.

More cello, anyone? – Poetry of love and Bach blend under the spell of established artists DAVID BURROWES and SARAH HAYHURST, whose appearances include the Wigmore Hall and other top international venues. The Talbot Hotel Westgate Suite, Wednesday 1 July at 2pm.

Next: a feast of the Baroque with the CAROLEAN ENSEMBLE, as they whisk winds and violin into the cello continuo and harpsichord. Laxton Long Room, Thursday 2 July at 2pm.

And to finish, we have violinist LOUISE JONES, whose remarkable career encompasses soloist appearances, recordings and conducting Nigeria’s first National Orchestra. Her concert, accompanied by some of her pupils, includes Haydn’s ‘Lark’ Quartet.  Laxton Long Room, Saturday 4 July at 1pm.
